Certified Scooter Board and Ramp, made in Christchurch for purposeful movement
Share
At Play Systems, we are always thinking about how children use their bodies, their spaces, and the equipment around them. Our Certified Scooter Board and Ramp was developed to support purposeful movement in a simple, versatile, and practical way.
Designed and made in Christchurch from durable birch plywood, this product brings together 2 familiar movement elements: a low scooter board and a sturdy ramp. Used together, they create opportunities for children to climb, slide, push, pull, balance, and move their bodies in different ways.
The scooter board can support prone movement, core strength, body awareness, coordination, and confidence. The ramp adds challenge and variation, allowing children to move up, down, across, and around the equipment during supervised play or therapy informed activity.
For ECE centres, schools, therapists, and families, the value of this product is in its simplicity. It does not prescribe one narrow activity. Instead, it allows children and adults to adapt the setup to suit the child, the space, and the purpose of the session.
Children might lie on their tummy and pull themselves along. They might push the board up the ramp. They might use the ramp for climbing, sliding, or crawling. They might combine it with mats, climbing equipment, or a wider movement course.
The product has been designed with real children’s environments in mind. The edges are smooth and rounded, the form is robust, and the materials are selected for regular supervised use.
It has also been independently reviewed by Playsafe Ltd and assessed with reference to relevant standards, including AS/NZS 8124.6:2016, NZS 5828:2015, and Appendix A for supervised ECE settings.
As far as we are aware, this is the only scooter board and ramp product of its kind currently available in New Zealand with this level of certification.
For Play Systems, this product represents the direction we are continuing to move in: New Zealand made children’s equipment that is purposeful, well designed, safe, and suitable for real settings.
Whether used in an early learning centre, a therapy space, a school, or a home environment, the Certified Scooter Board and Ramp offers a calm, practical way to support movement, confidence, and active exploration.
