A message from the founders

As parents of two young children, we’ve seen firsthand how quickly curiosity turns into learning through play. That belief inspired Play Systems, where we design and make Montessori-inspired wooden furniture that supports the way children play, learn, and grow. We believe the spaces children grow up in play a big part in how they learn, explore, and connect with the world around them. Our goal is to help families and educators create inviting, meaningful spaces where children can truly thrive.

Our Story

Founded by Andrew and Sophie, our mission is to help early childhood educators and parents create spaces that foster curiosity, creativity, and learning.

Andrew, an industrial designer with over 18 years of experience in medical product development, brings expertise in design and functionality. Sophie, an experienced Early Childhood Education (ECE) teacher with over 10 years of hands-on work with young children, understands how thoughtfully designed environments support a child’s development. Together, we are dedicated to crafting products that spark exploration and discovery.

At Play Systems, we design innovative, high-quality products to inspire and empower children through purposeful play. Our products are designed and manufactured right here in New Zealand which helps us ensure the highest levels of quality and safety.

We are committed to sustainability, and use ethically sourced materials wherever possible. Our products are independently certified to meet NZS 5828:2015 and APPA SECE standards, with consideration of ISO/DIS 8124-4 (2024), giving parents and educators confidence that every piece is safe, durable, and built for meaningful learning.
